Elder abuse is:
‘A single or repeated act or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person.’
Any older person is vulnerable and can potentially become a victim of elder abuse. Abuse may come in different forms, such as:

  • Physical
  • Psychological
  • Financial
  • Sexual abuse
  • Neglect

Elder abuse can occur anywhere older man or women live or visit, including:

  • Own home
  • Carer’s home
  • Day centre
  • Residential home
  • Nursing home
  • Hospital
